The Grasshopper and the Ant
Summary in English
This story is about a lazy grasshopper. The grasshopper was so lazy and spent his whole time idle. That was a summer season and hardworking ants were working day and night to store the ‘food for the winter. The grasshopper often laughs on them. Summer ended and cruel winters arrived. It started snowing. There was nothing to eat.
The snow was everywhere. Grasshopper suddenly remembered that he saw its neighbour ants storing food for the winters. At last he visited them. The ants shouted on him and called him lazy. Finally grasshopper learnt the value of the hard work.

यह एक आलसी टिड्डे की कहानी है। टिड्डा बेहद आलसी था तथा अपना अधिकांश समय व्यर्थ में ही बिताता था। गरमियों के दिन थे। चीटियाँ अपनी कठिन मेहनत के द्वारा रात-दिन एक करके सर्दियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा करने में लगी थीं। टिड्डा अक्सर उन पर हँसता था। गरमियों के दिन समाप्त हो गए तथा सरदियों के निष्ठुर दिन आ गए। बर्फबारी होने लगी। खाने को कुछ भी नहीं था। चारों तरफ़ बर्फ ही बर्फ़ थी। तभी टिड्डे को याद आया कि उसने अपनी पड़ोसी चीटियों को सरदियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा करते देखा था। अंत में वह उनके पास गया। चीटियाँ उस पर चिल्लाई तथा उसे आलसी कहने लगीं। अंततः टिड्डे को कठिन मेहनत का मूल्य समझ में आ गया।
Hindi Translation of The Story
Once there lived a lazy grasshopper.
He didn’t like to work. All day long he
sang songs and played in the warm sunshine.
एक समय एक आलसी टिड्डा था। वह काम करना
पसंद नहीं करता था। वह पूरे दिन गरम धूप में गाने
गाता तथा खेलता था ।
Word-Meanings: Lazy (लेज़ी) -the person who is not active, आलसी।
Grasshopper (ग्रेसहॉपर) -a small green insect, टिड्डा।
Warm (वॉम) -hot, गरम। Sunshine (सनशाइन) -the light of the sun, सूर्य का प्रकाश।
“Hee, Hee! Look at me! I’m as happy
as can be!” The grasshopper laughed at
the hardworking ants as they Worked
day and night.
“ही, ही! मुझे देखो! मैं जितना खुश रह सकता हूँ, उतना
खुश हैं।” टिड्डा मेहनती चींटियों को देखकर हँसता था
क्योंकि वे दिन-रात काम करती थीं।
Word-Meanings: Laughed (लॉफ्ड) -the state of happiness when one laughs, हँसना।
Hardworking (हार्डवर्किग) -one who works hard, मेहनती।

Winter ahead, they replied. The lazy
Grasshopper only laughed louder,
Summer ended and the cold winter
Arrived. The wind blew strong and it
Started snowing.
हम आने वाली लंबी सरदियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा
कर रही हैं। वे बोलीं आलसी टिड्डा केवल जोर से
हँसा। गरमी खत्म हुई तथा ठंडी सरदी आ गईं। हवा
तेज चलने लगी और बर्फ गिरने लगी।
Word-Meanings: Storing (स्टोरिंग) -keeping something for future use, जमा करना।
Grain (ग्रेन) -food, खाना। Snowing (स्नोइंग) -falling of snow, बर्फ का गिरना।
The grasshopper now began to worry.
There is no food to eat-no grass, no
flowers or leaves. I cant see even the
tiniest fly or worm. What will I do?
I will surely starve!” he cried. “Let me
meet my kind neighbour, the ants!”
टिड्डे को अब चिंता सताने लगी। “खाने के
लिए कुछ भी नहीं है -न खाना, न घासं, न
फल और न पत्तियाँ। यहाँ तक कि मुझे छोटी-छोटी
मक्खियाँ या कीड़े भी नहीं दिख रहे। मैं क्या करूंगा।
मैं अवश्य ही भूंखा मर जाऊँगा।” वह चिल्लाया। “मझे
अपनी दयालु पड़ोसी चीटियों से मिलना चाहिए।”
Word-Meanings: Tiniest (टाइनिएस्ट) -very small, छोटा।
Starve (स्टार्व) -to die in hunger, भूख से मरना।
The grasshopper remembered how
the hardworking ants had stored
away gain for the winter. He knocked
at her door. “Dear ant, I am hungry
and cold. I have nothing to eat.
Please can you give me some food?”
टिड्डे को याद आया कि किस प्रकार से मेहनती चीटियों
ने सरदियों के लिए खाना इकट्ठा किया था। उसने उनका
दरवाजा खटखटाया। “प्रिय चींटियों, में भूखा हूँ तथा मुझे
ठंड लग रही है। मेरे पास खाने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं
है। क्या तुम कृपा करके मुझे कुछ खाना दे सकती हो?”
Word-Meanings : Knocked (नॉक्ड) -patted on the door, खटखटाया।
The ant shook in anger. Lazy one!
What were you doing all summer?
You were only singing and dancing.
You should have thought of the cold
winter months ahead. Go away!”
She slammed her door shut. The lazy
Grasshopper was left as hungry as before.
चींटी गुस्से से बिफर पड़ी। “आलसी, तुम पूरी गरमी
क्या कर रहे थे? तुम केवल नाच और गा रहे थे।
तम्हें आने वाली ठंडी सरदी के महीनों के बारे में।
सोचना चाहिए था। अब जाओ।” उसने जोर से दरवाज़ा
बंद कर दिया। आलसी टिड्डा पहले की तरह ही भूखा रह गया।
Word-Meanings: Shook (शुक) -agitated घबड़ा गई,
Anger (ऍगर) -rage, गुस्सा।
Slammed (स्लैम्ड) -here shut the door in anger, गुस्से में दरवाजा बंद कर लिया।
